Installation of landfill cover in Dutch village Schinnen started
The landfill, owned by Essent Milieu, will be partly covered with a Trisoplast layer. The current project concerns a dump field of 57.500 m², on which a combined cover will be applied: on top of a 7 cm thick Trisoplast layer a 2 mm thick HDPE geo-membrane will be installed, plus drainage mats and 80 cm of top soil.
Leon Dirix, spokesman of Essent Milieu, stated in an interview in the Dutch newspaper De Limburger on 3 September last: "This type of cover is used for every one of our landfills, as it is a legal requirement. This cover has to make sure that the waste of this landfill is sealed and will not harm the environment for at least 100 years."
The works in Schinnen are expected to take approximately four weeks. In November Trisoplast Mineral Liners will start working at another landfill owned by Essent Milieu. This landfill, located in Montfort in the south of the Netherlands, is no longer in use. Here, an area of 140.000 m² in total will be provided with a Trisoplast final cover.
